504 is the number of Italian companies being currently registered with the Chamber of Commerce as innovative SMEs. But, according to an estimate of the Ministry of Economic Development, they could be more and even amount to 20,000.
«According to a report of the European Commission, there are 20,000 innovative SMEs out of existing 137,000 SMEs. However, many of these companies are unaware that they have the necessary requirements to benefit from the advantages provided for by the regulation», explains Alessandro Dragonetti, managing partner at Bernoni Grant Thornton. «This sector great relevance in Italy» continues, «in fact, SMEs register a turnover equal to 838 billion Euros, a value added of 189 billion, equal to 12% of Italian GDP, and incurred financial debts equal to 255 billion».
