GTFAS assisted ELS in acquiring Giuffrè Editore

Editions Lefebvre Sarrut (ELS) acquired Giuffrè Editore

Grant Thornton Financial Advisory Services assisted Editions Lefebvre Sarrut (ELS) with the acquisition, from Giuffrè Holding, of 100% of shareholdings in the publishing house Giuffrè Editore.

Giuffrè Holding, which held the whole capital of Giuffrè Editore, transferred 100% of the shareholdings of the well-known Italian publishing house to Editions Lefebvre Sarrut (ELS), leading Group in the European professional legal and tax publishing industry.

With an over 80 years’ experience, 140 employees and a turnover of approximately 50 million Euros in FY 2016, Giuffrè Editore is among the leading groups in Italy operating in the university, professional and scientific publishing industry. Besides performing the traditional publishing activity, Giuffrè Editore – established in Milan in 1931 – manages DeJure, a law information system, produces software for the submission of deeds to the office of the clerk of Courts and for the running of legal firms, and also publishes specialised online portals on law, labour and taxation.

Editions Lefebvre Sarrut is a European Group established in 1999 following a merger between Editions Francis Lefebvre and Editions Législatives. Since then, the Group has grown both its internal lines – thanks to a determined trend towards innovation – and its external lines – through the acquisition of important players on the European market, thus consolidating their position.

ELS has entered the Italian market in 1991 with a joint venture called “Memento”, through which it developed an original and unique publishing concept, which has gained ground in the legal and tax professional publishing industry. Thanks to this operation, ELS extended its offer and strengthened its leadership in the Italian professional publishing industry, which is a market that is worth 550 million Euros, focused on the legal and tax areas – which cover 75% of turnover –, very concentrated, has high barriers to entry and a push to innovation and digitalization.

Grant Thornton Financial Advisory Services, with a team led by partner Stefano Marchetti and made up of Alberto Alverà and Edoardo Dell’Acqua, provided Financial Due Diligence services to the purchasing company.
